Two separate studies at ACC.25 included updated data on the asymptomatic AS patients who either underwent TAVR or clinical surveillance as part of the EARLY TAVR trial. Edwards Lifesciences funded the research as well as the original EARLY TAVR analysis.

Mark Rabbat, MD, member of the Society of Cardiovascular CT (SCCT) Advocacy Committee, director of cardiac CT and professor of radiology at Loyola University Medical Center, ran I to Cardiovascukar Business Digital Editor Dave Fornell at #ACC25 this week. Cardiac CT has exploded with rapid expansion in the past few years and now has increased outpatient payments and reimbursement for AI analysis features for FFR-CT and CCTA coronary plaque assessments. These were predictions about what was coming in CCTA as payors saw the value of cardiac CT. This was discussed in this video interview between Rabbat and Fornell: https://lnkd.in/gb-Cypcr #ACC2025 #yesCCT

Different sizes of the Medtronic Evolut valve at #ACC25. The big news on this valve at the meeting were the 5-year results in low risk patients compared to surgical valve replacement, where TAVR and SAVR outcomes are about even, but with hemodynamic outcomes leaning in favor of TAVR. As TAVR moves to low-risk patients, concern has focused on long-term outcomes and valve durability, and so far the TAVR valve has performed very well. Abbott’s HeartMate 3 at #ACC25 is the last traditional left ventricular assist device (LVAD) on the U.S. market for advanced heart failure patients as either a destination therapy or bridge to heart transplant. While this technology is life saving, other LVADs have been taken off the market because they had a long list of issues associated with them in recalls from issues resulting in patient deaths. HeartMate 3 has also had its share of issues just in the past year, but the consensus is the device does more good than harm and there are not many alternatives amid a shortage of donor hearts for transplant, and many patients who will not even make the transplant list. Some cardiac surgeons are looking at the eventual replacement of LVADs with total artificial hearts (TAH) Here is a overview of where TAH technology is at: https://lnkd.in/g7MVm5uQ #ACC2025

Coronary CT angiography (CCTA) is seeing rapid expansion in the U.S. beyond large academic hospitals to community hospitals and even out patient clinics. It address this demand all the major CT vendors now offer cardiac capable CT systems that are more economical that the traditional high-end flag ship systems that did most of these exams in the past. This is the newest release of such a system by GE Healthcare at #ACC25 yesterday. The new Revolution Vibe offers the same CCTA scanning capability at a lower cost than the Revolution system. Cardiologist Karen E. Joynt Maddox, MD, MPH, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, professor at Washington University, and co-director of the school’s Center for Advancing Health Services, Policy & Economics Research, did a video interview with Cardiovascular Business Digital Editor Dave Fornell at #ACC25. She spoke on health policy in a business session at ACC. Late year she presented a session where she clearerly showed where quality reporting metrics over the past decade show little impact on healthcare and called for the need to change how we practice and measure medicine. This is a ring you wear on your finger and it will monitor your blood pressure, displayed at #ACC25 this week by Cart. it uses PPG combined with artificial intelligence to monitor BP continuously 24/7. The device does not yet have FDA clearance, but we have seen a couple notable cardiologists wearing them at recent meetings to try out the technology. #ACC2025 #hypertension
